Our Definition of Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is small business ownership of many sizes and types. Our focus is in lifestyle companies, where the business owner is looking to create a sustainable business for self-employment and a livable salary.

What makes Working Solutions unique is that we provide capital to startups; our rates are affordable; we provide free TA for the life of the loans to help our borrowers build successful businesses; and we create community within our portfolio of clients.

Our Mission

Working Solutions is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) whose mission is to provide micro-entrepreneurs with the access to capital and resources they need to start or grow a successful business. We prioritize serving low-income individuals, women, and minorities. We support microenterprise growth as a strategy to strengthen the local economy, create jobs, and build strong communities.

Our audience is early stage entrepreneurs – pre-revenue through approximately 7 years or less in business. That sector is our focus as those are the years that usually require startup capital or next stage growth funds at the microloan level of $5,000 to $50,000.

Notable Achievements

We have lent over $12MM to over 500 businesses year to date. We plan to grow this number year over year within our capacity to serve the loans and provide the TA to the portfolio. Our goals are approximately 110 loans at $3.4MM per year.

Our Initiative Goals

We strongly believe in making access to capital available to those who have limited resources and little to no access to the capital they need to start or grow a successful business. We specifically want to attract women, minority and low income business owners.

Many service providers and resource organizations exist and provide excellent service and training / advice to small business owners. What is lacking is a cohesive ecosystem where referrals and resource access are easily available. We would like to see a digital and brick-n-mortar collaborative where all resource providers are visible and easy to access / find – both for the individual entrepreneur and the referral organization.
